Special Events

Logan Cycling Club has some rich traditions which displays the culture of the club. In addition to our regular Racing, Training and Social rides we hold special event rides that build camaraderie and reinforce the mate-ship culture we hold dear.

Plum Pudding Ride

Paul Kelly-Taylor (The Silver Fox) is renowned for his famous plum puddings. Each year at Christmas members gather together to share this treat at a common table. It’s a time to celebrate the year as a club, have a laugh, enjoy the festive season and indulge in some pudding goodness. Bring a gold coin with you to cover expenses. The ride takes the usual time slot of the Club Coffee ride on a nominated weekend in December.

Overnight Social Ride

Picture
Approximately 150km social no-drop ride from Logan to a location such as Byron with stops along the way. Attendes stay overnight, affording the opportunity to lubricate both themselves and their bike before being collected by the sag wagon the next morning while waving to the nutters who then repeat the journey home.

Rail Trail

Rail rides occur a couple of times throughout the year including the BVRT and Northern rivers trails.

Christmas in July

A slightly longer ride than the usual social rides, with the added bonus of free breakfast for all club members. It really is Christmas.

Memorial Ride

In Memory of Our Club Legends
This day is held in memory of three outstanding individuals and club members who shaped the Logan City Cycling Club both on and off the bike. They helped present our club locally, nationally and on the world stage, nurtured our juniors, and supported our elite and senior members at club events.
The friendships and memories we enjoy today are possible because of these past members. This ride isn’t about having the biggest bunch – it’s about giving everyone the opportunity to reflect, to tell stories, and to listen, whether you knew these members personally or not.
The ride is open also to all non-riding committee members, volunteers, life members, and club members.

John Morris
John was a long-time member and life member of LCCC, serving as a commissaire for many decades. Often seen officiating at state events across Queensland and at our own club events, John was one of the original members always standing at the finish line on Magnesium Drive since the late 1980s. He played a pivotal role in the development of major Queensland cycling events and helped unite Redland Bay CC, Ipswich CC, and Logan CC under the Southwest Cycling Club, creating strong, healthy competition—a legacy few have matched. John was a fair referee, passionate about nurturing juniors, and helped shape LCCC into the thriving club it is today.

Charlene Smith
Charlene was a larger-than-life presence in our club for decades. A talented track rider, she loved velodrome racing and could often be found at the Saturday café ride—either riding or enjoying a coffee. In her later years, Charlene raced at the World Masters Track Championships, returning home with medals even in her eighties. Charlene’s dedication extended to juniors, as she would spend hours on the sidelines at weeknight training, sharing her wisdom and proudly displaying her world medals. Her tireless service as a marshal on club rides, often in the sun, exemplified her commitment to LCCC.

Nev “Nifty” Jordan
Nev was a true gentleman, a champion rider, and a devoted clubman. He competed in some of Australia’s biggest races, rode for charity, and enjoyed mid-ride treats with a cheeky grin, often saying, “don’t tell the missus!” Always present at club meetings and quick to help with juniors at training and racing, Nev’s legacy lives on through the club newsletter his family produced after his passing and the junior trophies they donated for our Sizzling Summer Series.

Neville Jordan

Neville was born in Burnie Tasmania on 24/06/49 the first son to Lloyd & Lela Jordan with 3 brothers Robert, Graeme, Noel & sister, Bernice.

Burnie is a strong cycling town, famous for its New Years day sports & the Burnie wheel race. Neville started cycling in 1964 and came through the ‘hard knock’ days of cycling. In 1967 ‘Nifty’ won both Tasmanian junior track & road titles, then went on to represent Tasmania in Townsville at the Australian titles. He brought home one title but lost others due to his aggressive riding, a trait that endured Neville’s career, always a very competitive & passionate cyclist.

In the 70s Neville won the 180km Launceston to Hobart road race, an event that has continued to endure for 110 years.

After coming to Brisbane in 1994, as a handler for the world masters games, he rekindled his love for the sport, later joining the Logan City Amateur Cycling Club. While with the club he completed the 800km Sydney to Gold Coast charity ride, raising money for the Father Riley’s “kids off the street” program.

Neville is survived by his wife Christine & stepsons Ben, Josh, Andrew & Graham
We will all miss him dearly
